What Absolute Rubbish!! The Retail National Staff Dismissal Register

Andy_rant Has anyone seen this complete load of rubbish that came to light this week? Action Against Business Crime (AABC) Group have set up a National Staff Dismissal Register for retailers. It will apparently hold data on individuals who are dismissed for prescribed “dishonesty” reasons, including theft and/or damage, and on individuals who resign part way through a disciplinary process or investigation based on such reasons. The organisations that have signed up - allegedly including Harrods, Mothercare and Selfridges - to the scheme will have access to this information and are likely to use this in their employee vetting process.

Just imagine creating something that broke every rule in the employment discrimination handbook and not even having it officially regulated!! Well AABC seem to have chosen have chosen to do this with their stupidly misguided register.

How the hell can you have a register of dismissed employees when each retailer has its own disciplinary criteria. The phrase double standards springs to mind!!

Do the 350 top companies really give a c**p about their employees?

On seeing the news today  about a survey by Deloitte on the 350 top companies in the UK, my question for today is a simple one. Who are more valuable to these companies, their staff or their shareholders?  It seems that these companies would rather cut jobs than reduce their dividend to shareholder!!

While I understand the mechanics of economics, what annoys me is the blase attitude that they publicly choose shareholders over their staff. Do they really give a ***t about their employees? They will make sure they still get their bonuses - wouldn't want to miss those now would they!! Surely there could be a compromise? What is wrong with a reducing both dividends and jobs (if they actually need to!) and show their employees that they actually have some respect for them?

Are candidates Blind?

Blind_candidates Sorry, rant time again!! It has long been my opinion that candidates fall into two distinct camps, ones that can read and ones that are blind! Let me explain...

You place a well written advert on a web board, targeting a specific candidate both in the title and with the right keyword phrases in the body of the advert. You might even put a phrase such as 'you must have xxxxxx knowledge, you cannot do the role without it' or 'do not even applying if you haven't got xxxxxx skills'. Self explanatory I would imagine! Well evidently there are many blind candidates out there, because they obviously cannot read!!  Why do I say that? Simple answer - because even though they haven't got any of the must have skills they still send in a bloody CV for the role! WHY? They don't have the skills to do the job and they still send a CV??!!

We often use many words to describe these people and the politest I could put here was 'Muppets'. If you are a candidate reading this now, please please please don't send a CV for a job you know you cannot do - it just wastes everybody's time, and it just contributes to our high stress levels and large alcohol intake of an evening (just joking about the stress bit!!)!!
