We all communicate with each other, talking and listening; we engage with other people; and since the year dot this has been happened by the power of speech....successfully!
What is recruitment?
It is a people business, right?
Why is it then that recruiters have stopped talking?
Why do so many recruiters hide behind emails, LinkedIn, Twitter and various other forms of social networking? Answer: They have no relationships, so they have no choice!!
Many of the younger recruiters in the business, will, I am sure, be fed up hearing the 'oldies' banging on about how they 'did this' and 'did that' in the old days of recruitment. Well I will let you 'young ones into a little secret....
Do you know why we were successful? We picked up the phone, talked to people and spent the time to build relationships. We networked. It was exactly what social networking today, is - building relationships and engaging with people.
It is therefore no surprise to hear - the legend that is - Seth Godin, say something very similar when asked recently at an event, "Is social networking valuable for business, and if so which types of businesses?"
