I am always interested to hear about good graduate career sites, especially ones that really to try and engage with the prospective job seekers in an appealing way. Whilst having a conversation yesterday with Jason from my-ijob, he pointed me in the direction of Aldi - one of the companies actually growing faster during this so called credit crunch.
They have chosen to use videos of their staff as one of the primary sales tools on their nicely titled 'Cream Wanted' career site.
I definitely agree that with the need to engage and interact with gen Y recruits, video is the perfect medium. Overall Aldi does present a nice site, but I have to say I am a little surprised by the selection of the candidates chosen - they are all from the North of England, all having graduated from Leeds, Manchester etc. It would have been good to see a mix of people on there.
What I do like is the bravery to openly talk about the long hours and the hard work. They make no attempt to hide the fact that retail, especially in Aldi, is hard work. And having interviewed at least a dozen of their Managers and Area Managers over this last year (for other clients' roles), they all concurred about the level of hard work and commitment needed to work there!!
So overall, it is what I would call a refreshingly honest graduate career site.
