Recruitment fairs are certainly moving on from the days when, as a recruiter you were encamped in large exhibition halls for what seemed like months waiting for grads to appear!
There was the attempt at a Second Life event recruiting event earlier this year, but to be fair I am not sure how that went. So it is good to see someone else try and utilise the online world to try and capture the attention of the gen Y'ers.
Virtual Grad Fair 2008 is as the name suggests, an online graduate recruitment event (on the 10th-12th November). It certainly looks very interesting, and they do seem to cover all the bases in terms of online contact as shown below.
They allow you to 'visit' all the companies, have real-time chats online with representatives from across the company (although it of course might be the tea lady, as no-one will know!!!). You can find out about open positions and upload CV's (which is of course is what you would expect). They have a presentation arena for showing videos and webinars from the attending companies, and a virtual lounge for 'chatting online' over a virtual beer. Do go onto their virtual tour on their website and see for yourself.
I have to say that I wish them well for their event on November the 10th-12th, I really hope it works, because I do believe that this is the way forward. In this busy world, 'old style' recruitment fairs do seem a little dated, and anything that can be done to refresh them must be advantageous for the companies concerned.
