The Yell.com gadget - example of a new recruitment tool from Google
Last week I sat through a Google webinar, and for the first time I saw google gadget advertising. It is a very clever way of using paid advertising in the same as PPC, to reach jobseekers. I am not yet sold on how effective this is going to be, but because it is only limited by the ideas that companies' web developers, have it could be quite interesting. I am sure that like other gadgets, if they interest people then they will go exponential virally. Anyway, judge yourself with the first of its kind, Yell.com.
There are three parts to the gadget:
1. Video
2. Games
3. The actual jobs
It does look appealing and it certainly entices the viewer. But how effective they will be over a Google Adwords campaign, I am not so sure. Only time will tell!!

This is a real pain; we are developing a gadget very similar to this for a client. We wanted to be the first!
Still, we definitely think it will be an innovative and effective (not often you can put those two words together) candidate attraction tool.
Hopefully we will also be able to share some stats with you later in the year.

Alistair, you may not be the first, but you can certainly be more creative than Yell I would suggest. Still not convinced as to the validity of these gadgets, but as an innovator, I am always happy to explore new things in recruitment. Look forward to seeing your creation!!

Nice pick up, hadn't come across this.. Looks good, execution / creative concept quite cute too. Who was the agency ( or in-house? ). Al, looking forward to seeing yours too?

Thanks for the gadget add pitch!
Not sure how many people will actually go down the route of gadget adds, but I wish you luck with them.
If you produce any recruitment orientated ones, feel free to send them over - and I will share them with my blog readers.
